From DC to Iceland to London

We have officially returned to London for the second summer in a row! Luckily, we spent so much time here last year because we only had a couple of hours to walk around here today before our Contiki meeting and bedtime--which we were all too excited for after 2 days of traveling.

Our trip started off rough as we drove through a torrential downpour for 5 hours from Raleigh to DC. We then got stuck in rush hour traffic the next day on the way to Dulles airport. It got better as we boarded our Icelandair plane and were greeted with a bottle of Iceland spring water. The plane was smaller than other international flights I had been on, but they had a screen for each seat and a USB port for charging. They do a good job of advertising Iceland on the flight--I definitely want to venture out there during our return layover.  Though The Hobbit Part 1 & 2 were viewing options, we decided we should probably sleep. We landed in Iceland around 6 am their time (5.5 hour flight), had a 45 min layover, and boarded the next flight.

Iceland apparently does things differently as they never announced boarding--we just noticed hoards of people walking through the gate outside. Laura and I followed. It was 50 degrees outside and we walked to a little bus, hopped on, and arrived at our plane. It was only a 2.5 hour flight from Reykjavik to London.

We took the tube from Heathrow to Russell Square and checked in at our hotel. We ate dinner at pub outside the hotel and walked around the block for a bit before our meeting. That was all we really experienced of London this time. Of course we had to take a phone booth photo before leaving...now off to Amsterdam!
